RE: Who is this lady? - L Verge - 10-27-2019 12:26 PM Florence Harding? RE: Who is this lady? - Susan Higginbotham - 10-27-2019 04:26 PM No, none of those. This lady was not a First Lady, but she knew one. RE: Who is this lady? - Eva Elisabeth - 10-27-2019 07:21 PM Has she been mentioned on the forum? A US lady? (Or some UK royal?) Is the quote of the first half of the 20th century? (Is it about baseball?) Is the quote of the first half of the 20th century? (Is it about baseball?) Eva, the World Series is the championship of the highest-level professional league which covers U.S. and Canada baseball (called the "major leagues"). As I'm writing this, game 5 of the 2019 World Series is being played right now. So the mystery woman of the quote is likely to be an American. My next guess will be Alice Roosevelt Longworth. RE: Who is this lady? - Susan Higginbotham - 10-28-2019 08:20 AM No, not Alice. The woman has been mentioned on this forum. Second hint: the person who wrote the account of visiting the lady was the offspring of a Lincoln biographer. RE: Who is this lady? - RJNorton - 10-28-2019 10:18 AM No idea - wild guess - Ida Tarbell? RE: Who is this lady? - Susan Higginbotham - 10-28-2019 11:02 AM Nope. Third hint: our lady baseball fan knew Lincoln. RE: Who is this lady? - Gene C - 10-28-2019 11:41 AM Julia Taft Bayne ? RE: Who is this lady? - Susan Higginbotham - 10-28-2019 11:42 AM No, not her. RE: Who is this lady? - Rob Wick - 10-28-2019 12:04 PM I'm not sure of the woman, but is the person she told it to Bruce Barton? Best Rob RE: Who is this lady? - Steve - 10-28-2019 12:35 PM Mary Harlan Lincoln? RE: Who is this lady? - Susan Higginbotham - 10-28-2019 12:58 PM Not Bruce Barton for the historian's offspring, and not Mary Harlan Lincoln for the lady. But Mary Harlan Lincoln is getting close. RE: Who is this lady? - L Verge - 10-28-2019 01:30 PM Let's try either of Robert and Mary Lincoln's daughters -- Jesse or Mamie (with emphasis on Mamie)? No idea about the other part of the question, however. |
