While I can't recall reading that he met the President, I'll guess Weichmann RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 05-06-2021 09:44 AM Yes, Gene! Indeed these are the words of Louis Weichmann. Also, kudos to Eva who really narrowed it down with her questions. Gene, it is in his book - p. 6. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 05-07-2021 01:20 PM Kudos, Gene - I really couldn't remember either he met Lincoln!!! RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-07-2021 05:33 PM What event was the first in Jacksonville, FL, that blacks and whites (I guess my wording isn't pc, no offensé intended) could attend without segregation? RE: Extra Credit Questions - mbgross - 08-07-2021 07:42 PM Football game? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-07-2021 07:44 PM Good guess, but not correct! RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-08-2021 03:44 AM A women's suffrage march/rally? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-08-2021 04:47 AM Another good idea, but nope. Hint: Mike was a bit closer as for the kind of event. No sports event though. RE: Extra Credit Questions - Susan Higginbotham - 08-08-2021 09:17 AM Fourth of July celebration? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-08-2021 09:20 AM Another good guess, Susan, but it was no political event! Hint #3: It was a mass event! Hint #4: A ticket was required. It took place at Gator Bowl. RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 08-08-2021 11:07 AM Maybe a music concert? RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-08-2021 03:04 PM Yes!!! RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-08-2021 04:42 PM No idea or further questions to approach? Hint #5: It was in 1964. (Just to clarify - the "music event" is to be determined more precisely!) RE: Extra Credit Questions - Rob Wick - 08-08-2021 05:18 PM Given the time and the clues, I would say it was a Beatles concert. Best Rob RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 08-08-2021 05:45 PM Correctly concluded, Rob! The concert took place on September 11, 1964 during their first US tour. When the Beatles got to know that the promoters planned to have a segregated audience, John Lennon said: “We never play to segregated audiences, and we aren’t going to start now. I’d sooner lose our appearance money.” The stadium was sold out, so the promoters obliged. In all contacts then they had a passage to "not be required to perform in front of a segregated audience".
