Eva, I tried to find out, but drew a blank. Clinton Lloyd, Clerk of the House, made the presentation speech when the chair was given, and after the assassination, Robert Lincoln gave the chair to the Lloyd family. I could not discover anything beyond that.

Thanks, Roger!! (The chairs are quite haunting IMO, especially the bear ones.)

Where's Frau Eva?

Ok, I will offer you a larger peep:

Smallpox, or the lilacs in the dooryard?

Happy 3rd Advent! Sorry for delay. I hope it's ok I post another Xmas tree in a city with a Lincoln connection. Where is it?

Looks like Germany to me. Frankfurt - (where Tad attended school at Dr. Hohagen's Institute).

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-12-2015 07:02 PM

Kudos, Roger - I was hoping this clipping looked too cozy for the only German city with a skyscraper skyline...
Since this went so fast I will post another 3rd Advent question. Nevertheless you scored, of course, Roger!

A cemetery?

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - J. Beckert - 12-12-2015 07:28 PM

Hildene?

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-12-2015 07:41 PM

Two excellent guesses, Gene and Joe, but sorry, neither is correct.

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-13-2015 05:01 AM

Hmmm, I thought this was a good one. Not any ideas? Actually I cannot think of a hint that doesn't instantly reveal this, so:

Hint #1: I will answer yes/no - questions.

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - RJNorton - 12-13-2015 05:23 AM

Is it located in the USA?

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-13-2015 06:02 AM

Yes, and the place has also been topic and on this forum.

Hint #2: Think about what kind of place this could be. (Gene's question e.g. has ruled out cemeteries.)

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-13-2015 09:01 AM

I try a new scan which hopefully sheds more light on the place:

And would like to encourage you again to (hint #2: ) think about what kind of place this could be in general.

To my older eyes it looks like a globe, and the only thing that comes to mind is the Globe Tavern. But I realize that is not the answer.
