Who is this?

RE: Who is this person? - J. Beckert - 11-29-2013

Dennis Hanks?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 11-29-2013

Good guess, Joe, but it's not him.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 11-30-2013

Hint #1: Try to imagine him without the beard. Whom does he resemble?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 11-30-2013

This is going to get to me, Eva. I definitely have seen that image in a book, but my mind has gone blank. Salmon P. Chase with a beard?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 11-30-2013

Another good guess, Roger, but it isn't Chase either.
Hint #2: He supposedly died in 1830.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 11-30-2013

Eva, your second clue helped. Mordecai Lincoln.

I was going to say John Hanks, but he died in 1889.

RE: Who is this person? - L Verge - 11-30-2013

Is Mordecai the one who was married to a Mudd?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 11-30-2013

Yes, good memory, Laurie. He married Mary Mudd. Wikipedia says Mary Mudd was a first cousin twice removed of Dr. Samuel Mudd.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 11-30-2013

You've got it, Roger, very good! He does resemble Thomas, doesn't he?

RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - 12-14-2013

Inquiring minds want to know...who is this gentleman?

RE: Who is this person? - L Verge - 12-14-2013

With that stern a face, it sure isn't Santa Claus!

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 12-15-2013

James Harlan as an older man?

RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - 12-15-2013

Good guess Roger, but it isn't Harlan. And Laurie is correct that it isn't Santa Claus.

First clue: He corresponded with several Lincoln biographers.

Rob

Worthington C. Ford?
