RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Gene C - 12-10-2015 06:28 PM Old gov't office buildings (like War Dept.)? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-10-2015 06:29 PM Good idea, Thomas, but, sorry, neither a school nor a hospital. (12-10-2015 06:28 PM)Gene C Wrote: Old gov't office buildings (like War Dept.)?Very smart, too, Gene, but, sorry, no office building either. Can you think of any other "functional" buildings? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Thomas Kearney - 12-10-2015 06:34 PM Is it an office building? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - ReignetteC - 12-10-2015 06:35 PM Ok, I am way off topic, but it looks like a side view of Independence Hall. RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-10-2015 06:35 PM I'll give another hint. Hint #5: This was privately owned by a person (don't know if still). I am sorry - this is not in Philadelphia! RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Thomas Kearney - 12-10-2015 06:40 PM Was it owned by a Lincoln friend? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Gene C - 12-10-2015 06:41 PM An Inn, Hotel or Motel? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-10-2015 06:42 PM Certainly the owner was not a friend, Thomas! RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Thomas Kearney - 12-10-2015 06:44 PM The hotel in Chicago where Mary Lincoln and Lizzie Keckley lived after the assassination? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-10-2015 06:47 PM Two further excellent guesses, thank you so much, Roger and Thomas (and everyone!), but this is neither in DC nor in Chicago. Hint #6: This hotel is known for one single incident. RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - J. Beckert - 12-10-2015 07:07 PM The hotel Booth stayed in in Montreal? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - L Verge - 12-10-2015 07:17 PM I'm stumped because this building does not look all that old to me. Was it really around in the Lincoln era? Those 8 over 8 window panes are unique to me. 6 over 6 was more prevalent in the 1800s, and later renovations of buildings favored 4 over 4. Given the "brooding" clue leads me to believe that the building had a gloomy or sinister purpose? RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - J. Beckert - 12-10-2015 09:26 PM The Marshall House Hotel on King St. in Alexandria, Virginia. Site of the Civil War's first combat death. RE: Trivia Advent Calendar - Eva Elisabeth - 12-11-2015 08:04 AM Kudos, Joe - you nailed it. Well deserved. I leave the pleasure to you to adjust the score. Laurie, good point, at least one floor was added sometime - or the building was re-built in the style of the old one. Here are both: [attachment=2021] [attachment=2022] As for the plate on the current building, there are certainly different points of view: [attachment=2023] |
