RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Laurie Verge - 04-19-2013 This is strictly a wild guess, but could it be part of the Forbes collection (if it hasn't been sold) that used to be displayed in their New York offices? RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-19-2013 No. It is not part of the Forbes collection. It looks like there's a Yankee teaching class so far today...... RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Laurie Verge - 04-19-2013 We may have a Yankee teacher, but we Rebels will be polite and not throw spitballs... RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-19-2013 Hint # 1 - This item is displayed in a well established business. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Gene C - 04-19-2013 Wok N Roll ? RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-19-2013 No, not the Wok N Roll. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Laurie Verge - 04-19-2013 Another wild guess: Dan Weinberg has it hanging in the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop in Chicago? RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-19-2013 No ma'am. Hint # 2 - women were forbidden from entering this establishment until the late 20th. century. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 04-19-2013 Augusta National? RE: "Stump the Yankee" - Laurie Verge - 04-19-2013 Players' Club RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-19-2013 No and no. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-20-2013 Hint #3 - This establishment, like me, is located north of the Mason-Dixon line. Open since the 1850's, the Health Dept. of New York recently strongly suggested they make an attempt to remove decades of dust and dirt from the public area. Supposedly most items on display haven't been moved since 1910. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - RJNorton - 04-20-2013 New York Athletic Club? RE: "Stump the Yankee" - J. Beckert - 04-20-2013 Good guess, politest man on the internet, but not good enough. Unless my little nemesis from Surrattsville is getting somewhere with the New York crowd, I think I'm very close to making big strides in getting this Rebellion squashed. RE: "Stump the Yankee" - L Verge - 04-20-2013 Give the Surrattsville nemesis until 5 pm today to come up with an answer on her own. So far, she has not called in her big guns. Still no big guns, but another guess: The Union League Club of NY? |
