So far, I'm avoiding Google! The last quote, however, seems to indicate that it was made during a war crisis - probably one of the World Wars? May I ask if that is a clue?

Yes, the same person, Gene. Churchill is a good guess, but sorry, not correct. Laurie is closer to the era (re. the last quote). Thanks for holding back on googling.
Hint #1: The person's lecture on "The Problem of Peace" is considered one of the best speeches ever given.

I have no idea so this is a very, very wild guess. I know in 2014 when you traveled the state of Florida you said you went to Ernest Hemingway's home in Key West. When I think of that home I think of cats. So I will guess Ernest Hemingway.

You are very gracious, Eva. Thank you. Germany and the USA are the two top-rated women's soccer teams in the world. It was a great victory for the Americans. Now we will wait and see if we play Japan or England on Sunday.
