What well-known person said this about Abraham Lincoln?

"His birth brought into the world the miracle of a new life, than which none has ever exercised a more profound influence upon the civilization of the time. It was the beginning of a life the memory of whose unselfish devotion to the welfare of mankind will live as long as men prize liberty. In its fullness a nation consecrated to the doctrine of human rights was saved from destruction. The sacrifices that marked its course presaged a finer relationship among races and peoples."

That sounds like something a political leader might say, and prior to 1970.
Am I on the right track?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-09-2017 09:07 AM

He was a leader, Gene, but it was in the military. And, you are correct, the quote in the question is prior to 1970.

I don't have a clue, but I'll guess at Gen. George Patton (a favorite of mine).

BTW: I recently came across a quote that I really agree with, but have no idea who said it: “Leadership is about the future, so all true leadership begins with vision.” There was a similar one right before it that said "Management is about the present. Leadership is about the future."

Henry Deming?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-09-2017 11:52 AM

I am sorry, Laurie and Eva, but it was neither Patton nor Deming.

Hint #1: This man was once considered a possible Presidential candidate.

Before or after 1900?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-09-2017 12:02 PM

After 1900

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Wild Bill - 04-09-2017 12:40 PM

MacArthur

RE: Extra Credit Questions - Eva Elisabeth - 04-09-2017 01:25 PM

Another US President?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-09-2017 02:55 PM

Bill, it was not MacArthur, and Eva, the man never became a U.S. President.

Is his name familiar or(/and) has been mentioned on the forum (ever) before?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-09-2017 03:31 PM

Yes, it's a familiar name in history, and he has been mentioned before. The last time he was mentioned was in a post by Bill R.
