RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 06-21-2025 09:34 AM What is the name of the man viewing the Gutzon Borglum statue of Abraham Lincoln in Newark, New Jersey? ![]() RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - 06-21-2025 12:19 PM Wild guess, but is it Osborne Oldroyd? Best Rob RE: Who is this person? - AussieMick - 06-21-2025 04:09 PM He's not a US Citizen? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 06-22-2025 04:29 AM Osborne Oldroyd it is! Kudos, Rob! Oldroyd loved to take long walks. In 1913, at age 71, he walked from the Petersen House to New York City. On the way he stopped to view the Lincoln statue in Newark. RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - 06-22-2025 05:50 AM I think I should play the lottery. That was a complete and utter guess. Best Rob RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 06-22-2025 08:19 AM Rob, I would be most proud of you if you walked from the Petersen House to New York City like Olydroyd!!! I wonder how many folks on the forum could do that. I sure know I could not. RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - 06-22-2025 01:48 PM I can barely walk a block without my back bothering me. Maybe it was shorter in Oldroyd's time. Best Rob RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 11-23-2025 11:58 AM Let's see if anyone can answer this correctly without any research (googling, using books, etc.). A person arrived in Springfield on January 1, 1843. Lincoln Day-by-Day says the person "arrived Saturday and is today's sensation in Springfield." Who was the person? RE: Who is this person? - David Lockmiller - 11-23-2025 05:22 PM (11-23-2025 11:58 AM)RJNorton Wrote: Let's see if anyone can answer this correctly without any research (googling, using books, etc.). Daniel Webster I remember a little boy was told something like he was the "country's biggest man." The little boy went down to see for himself and returned to say one of Springfield's heaviest citizens (I forgot name) was "much bigger." RE: Who is this person? - Steve - 11-23-2025 11:01 PM Martin Van Buren? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - Yesterday 05:52 AM Nope, it's not Webster or Van Buren. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - Yesterday 11:02 AM Nope, it was a human. RE: Who is this person? - Rob Wick - Yesterday 02:31 PM Wild guess, but could it be Horace Greeley? Best Rob RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - Yesterday 07:55 PM Nope, it's not Greeley. |
