RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 06-10-2018 07:01 PM I think it is Powell's father RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 06-11-2018 03:56 AM You are right on, Laurie. It is Lewis Powell's father --> the Reverend George C. Powell. Once again, the photo credit goes to Betty, and she obtained the photo courtesy of Rufus Yent, a Powell relative. RE: Assassination Trivia - AussieMick - 07-20-2018 03:18 AM Who's this? [attachment=2890] RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 07-20-2018 03:24 AM It's a good one - I can just recommend to make the image Google-proof to not lead into temptation.... That was amazingly quick, Eva. I may need help. RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 07-20-2018 04:11 AM No idea - is it a member of the military commission that tried the charged conspirators? RE: Assassination Trivia - AussieMick - 07-20-2018 04:26 AM No, Roger, sorry (and thanks to Eva for being honest and warning me about the need to change the picture slightly). This man did have some involvement with the military early in his career. But that may be a red herring. His surname has one 'r' (some might be surprised). None of the following is much help but interesting I hope ... He made a living in the same line of work as his father (German-born, I see). Strangely though his father sent him away to learn the trade in another city (Richmond). If Eva, who knows the name, wants to try adding a clue she is more than welcome (because I am going to struggle) RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 07-20-2018 05:04 AM (07-20-2018 04:26 AM)AussieMick Wrote: His surname has one 'r' (some might be surprised). I have received questions about this through my Lincoln website, and now I will say it's Henry Deringer! RE: Assassination Trivia - AussieMick - 07-20-2018 05:30 AM Yes! Well done , Roger. RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 07-20-2018 03:47 PM Sorry, long day filled with garden and other duties - what a pity because my clue would have been without the military but something including his original name - originally the "device" would have been a Döringer. Sounds a bit like a sausage... RE: Assassination Trivia - AussieMick - 07-20-2018 06:20 PM Thanks anyway, Eva, especially for the tip. RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 07-30-2018 05:04 PM What is the "about" about this place? It has been years since I have been to this place, but I believe that it is about JWB's education because I think it is The Milton Inn - a fancy restaurant today, but once known as the Milton Academy when our boy attended school there RE: Assassination Trivia - AussieMick - 07-30-2018 11:51 PM Something to do with the Gettysburg Address? RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 07-31-2018 03:26 AM Good guess, Mick, but Laurie's is a hole-in-one - kudos, Laurie! Thanks to Bill B. for the photo and "inspiration"! |
