What is the name of the person?

Bill and Thomas, you were on the right track, but Laurie is correct. The strange thing about Dr. Lewis' statement is he got David Herold's first name wrong. He wrote a letter "asking for the body of James Herold to be returned to the family to comfort them and to give Herold a Christian burial." Andrew Johnson acted upon the request and also called Herold by the wrong first name in his response to Lewis.

SOURCE: Joan Chaconas' research as published in the article entitled "What's In A Name" in the Surratt Courier.

I found it unusual also that Dr. Lewis was making the request since the Herolds were not communicants of St. John's, but rather of Christ Episcopal, which was closer to their home.

Joan's very interesting article on David's name being "changed" - perhaps for eternity - is in the May issue of our Courier.

A photo of a young George Alfred Townsend?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Gene C - 05-28-2017 08:03 AM

A young Louis Weichmann?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Dave Taylor - 05-28-2017 08:11 AM

Sorry Roger, but Gene is correct. This is a picture of Louis Weichmann. The image, which I have not seen published anywhere else, appeared in Lloyd Lewis' article about Weichmann called "This is to Certify" in the February 4, 1928 edition of Liberty Magazine. You can read the article here: http://find.galegroup.com/lbrt/infomark.do?&source=gale&prodId=LBRT&userGroupName=miam96583&tabID=T003&docPage=article&searchType=&docId=FA4200023394&type=multipage&contentSet=LTO&version=1.0

It's telling me I need a password to sign in. Any suggestions?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Dave Taylor - 05-28-2017 10:01 AM

Strange. Gene said it asked him for a password too. I never had to put one in. Try going here and searching for Weichmann: http://find.galegroup.com/lbrt/dispBasicSearch.do?prodId=LBRT&userGroupName=miam96583

Let me know if that works.

Well I don't understand how, but when I visited the site I was automatically logged in as being from "Palmer Trinity School" which I've never heard of. It did provide me with free access to their collection though. Before my luck ran out, I saved the corresponding pages from the magazine for you all to see. Click each image to enlarge it:

Good find, Dave!

RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 05-28-2017 11:41 AM

Thanks so much for making this available. If that is indeed a young Weichmann, I find it difficult that he had a hard time making friends, especially with the ladies...

RE: Assassination Trivia - BettyO - 05-28-2017 04:43 PM

I agree, Laurie....Young Weichmann was a cutie....!

RE: Assassination Trivia - Gene C - 05-29-2017 06:25 AM

The last section of the article, "Time now to go back to the sisters of Weichmann,..."
very interesting.
