RE: Ford's150 Information
I know the Surratt tavern has an exhibit up, but are they doing anything "extra" for April 14-15? A John Lloyd re-enactor staggering out of bed with a headache and a distinct sense of unease?

A John Lloyd re-enactor staggering out of bed with a headache and a distinct sense of unease? We decided nearly a year ago that there was no way that we could compete with the dramatics going on at Ford's Theatre those two days - and I say that respectfully. If we had the rich drove of actors and actresses that the Ford's Theatre Society can supply, we might have been tempted, however. Believe it or not, we have repeated that scene of David Herold coming through the tavern door and telling John Lloyd to "...make haste and get those things" so many times for various film companies over the past 35 years that it's old-hand to us now! I have also repeated the history to so many news media this past week that it has been amazing. My staff members have been in on the action also. NBC News Channel 4 should feature Lindsey Horn this week, and Susan Proctor was interviewed by Baltimore's Public Radio. However, we are not normally open for tours on Tuesdays (only school groups). This Tuesday, April 14, will be an exception. Lindsey and Rick Smith will be costumed and ready to go in case anyone stops in on their way downtown. Susan will miss out because she is doing an in-school program for 72 students on Tuesday and another in-school event on Wednesday for 35 students. She'll be back in another school on Friday, telling the story to 100 kids this time. Ya gotta love the spring when those teachers finally get to the Civil War! BTW: If any of our local members want a lesson in automotive history, we will have an antique auto club doing a Booth Escape Route Tour in their neat old cars on Wednesday, April 22. We have planned for 52 cars and 105 people to begin arriving in waves from 8 am to 11 am that morning. Dave Taylor will have met with the group (that's coming from across the U.S.) on Sunday evening previous and given them a presentation on the assassination and Booth's escape. We'll still have another 175 students to round out the month as well as two more Booth tours plus one with the Smithsonian. Who says we don't keep busy? |

RE: Ford's150 Information
In spite of rumors to the contrary, there will be no margarita machine anywhere on 10th street. But La Hacienda in the area serves a mean watermelon margarita. As it was believed Booth steadied his nerve with brandy before he shot Lincoln, some of us are determined to do the same before we attend Now He Belongs. Join us if you dare.

I'd love to join upon arrival in D.C.! Is that the one in Arlington? And what time? In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first. |

Can't believe I am still on the other end of the world... I also have a last minute question: Is it customary to bring flowers? I have inquired about the Illinois state flowers and a local shop would be able to do it. But I am not sure about this particular custom. In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first. |

RE: Ford's150 Information
This is what their posting says:
The Lincoln Tribute April 14-15, 2015 This around-the-clock event will mark the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s assassination. During the day on April 14 and 15, Ford’s Theatre will present ranger talks, the one-act play One Destiny and panel discussions about the life, assassination and legacy of our 16th president. On the street outside, throughout the day and night, living historians will provide first-person accounts about the end of the Civil War, the experience of being inside the theatre at the moment of the assassination, medical reports from the Petersen House, and the impact of Lincoln’s life and death. Starting the evening of April 14, Ford’s will host Civil War living historians on Tenth Street to recreate the vigil for Abraham Lincoln. The public will be able to visit the Ford’s Theatre campus throughout the night. The morning of April 15, Ford’s will mark Abraham Lincoln’s death at 7:22 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony; church bells will toll across the city, just as they did in 1865. Tickets are required for entry to the Ford’s Theatre campus (Museum, Theatre, Petersen House and Center for Education and Leadership). Although this mentions needing a ticket for the museum in the basement of Ford's, it might not be open. They often close it and just resort to the rangers' talks. |

RE: Ford's150 Information
As this is the last post from me until after the party on 10th, let me close out with something said at Taltuval's Saloon before the deed: Mark my word, when I leave the stage for good, I will be the most talked about man in America. I will be eating at the Lincoln Waffle Shop (as close as there is to Taltuval's now a days). See you fellow Boothies there.

RE: Ford's150 Information
RAIN EXPECTED !! Although Im not excited about being rained on all night, perhaps it is fitting that the sky will be crying or as I understand, sobbing for the 150th. I will have extra socks and trash bags to cover myself with, Please do not mistake me for garbage and throw me away. Should have got that hotel after all. But no.........not me, I'm hard core.......I'm staying out all night........I'm very upset with myself right now. Of course if there is an all night party in anyone's hotel room, I will bring offerings (and my AMEX card).
