RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
Thanks for posting this, Sally. I admit to being fascinated by the possibility Mary Surratt told such a terrible secret to John Bingham. Apparently Bingham told Edwin Stanton, and Stanton also felt it was too important to reveal. Both Stanton and Bingham took the secret to their graves (at least that's the story). Does anyone know if there is an actual record of John Bingham meeting privately with Mary Surratt when she was incarcerated?

Rats! I don't get this channel.....wonder if it'll be posted online later as a Podcast or something?

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
It will probably be on line at the same website listed above in a week or two.
Just hope the speaker doesn't have any difficult names to pronounce, like Mosby ("Mahhsbee") Big Grin

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
Where is the announcement for this weekend's showing? All I see is a date of January 1, 2014. I'm also checking out who David Stewart is because I don't recall that name. The Bingham story about speaking with Mrs. Surratt has made the rounds, but I think proof has hit brick wall each time.

Where's John Elliott? He should have the Penitentiary log and Hartranft's day book memorized by this time - and those two sources would be the best to determine if there is any official record of Bingham visiting Mrs. Surratt.

Oh dear, I just remembered who David Stewart is -- The Lincoln Deception mystery novel. However, I just broke down and ordered it online for $8.47.

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
using the link in post #1, click on "Lectures in History", near the top of the page. The TV schedule will be on the right. The show is on C Span3, this Sunday at 10AM and 9PM and midnite, eastern time

Laurie, I am like you, I didn't know who the speaker is. Went to Amazon books and looked him up there. http://www.amazon.com/David-O.-Stewart/e...251&sr=1-1

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Thanks, Gene. Too many people walking in and out of the office today for my brain to operate correctly.

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
Thanks. I will be watching. I also noticed that on Saturday, December 21 at 6 P.M. and 10 P.M. (ET) C-SPAN 3 is airing "The Civil War: Library of Congress Lincoln Collection -In a session from this year’s Lincoln Forum Symposium in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Library of Congress Civil War manuscript specialist Michelle Krowl presents highlights from the library’s collection of Lincoln documents and objects. She features pieces that trace Lincoln’s legal and political careers, and talks about how the Library of Congress acquired the collection."

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
I stayed up last night and watched this. For those of you who missed, it was only fair, so I can't really recommend the show. Maybe his book is better?

RE: Program on C-Span this weekend
I didn't see this, but I did watch part of the author's presentation that was on the Internet. I am assuming he did not give away his theory on the "terrible secret" Mary Surratt told John Bingham?
