Lincoln Discussion Symposium

We have discussed wax figures of Mary and latex figures of Mary. Does anyone have photos of Mary Lincoln dolls? I own a box full of the doll kits made by Yield House, but only two of them are finished.

Madame Alexander created a ML doll, as did Suzanne Gibson. Any others?

I know years ago the US Historical Society made a BEAUTIFUL Mary Lincoln Doll - complete with Jewelry. She was porcelain. I wanted one badly and never got it....

The BEST dolls were from the US Historical Society - their dolls were lovely - don't even know if they are still in business (they were based out of Richmond, VA.) The Abe doll is for sale on eBay - and VERY Expensive!!

I have a Mary Lincoln doll I bought years ago at the museum in Springfield. It probably still is for sale there.

Betty, thanks for the wonderful photos! If you go to the website for the doll dressed in black, you can do a search for Mary Lincoln and read about the project. I was very surprised to read this page since my name and book are mentioned. I had correspondend with the owner of this business several years ago. My goal was to have several dolls made in the same style as Mary's dresses. I provided the doll kits, most of the fabric, and several pieces of trim for this project. These were suppose to be 'one of a kind' dolls created just for my collection. She charged me over $200 per doll. I am shocked to see a doll just like my "one of a kind" selling for $89.00.
Amazing what one can find on the internet -- and what a lesson I have learned.

I should point out that the question about dolls is from my current writing project. I have a list of Mary Lincoln dolls, but I know there is at least one missing from my list. Several years ago a doll was listed on ebay. Since I do not really collect dolls, I did not purchase it, and now I can not remember the name of the designer. The doll was very well made and wore a purple dress.

Betty, the doll from the U.S. Historical Society is very beautiful. I saw one several years ago and remember the jewelry was well done.

I don't collect dolls, but I DO love the costumes -- and did want the Mary Lincoln doll from the US Historical Society. She was beautiful with lovely seed pearl jewelry. Very realistic looking.

This appears to be a mannequin. The link is an article saying this is Mary's orginial dress at the Smithsonian. It was probably a doll sold by a company such as Franklin Mint, or part of a "First Ladies" doll series. I did find a lsit of companies which have manufactured "First Ladies" dolls. Hopefully, an intenet search will also provide photographs.

This is by far the best doll wearing the white gown with rufffles. I have searched and searched. I did find companies which made "First Ladies" dolls. I have not been able to located photos for the ones made by Nortel, Brinn's, or Carlson.
I did find that Suzanne Gibson was commissioned by the Smithsonian to create dolls for Reeves International. Her "Mary" wore the purple dress. I am wondering if this is the one I remember. The one I saw years ago was in mint condition, and the ones I have seen recently are not.

I have Abraham and Mary Lincoln salt & pepper shakers! I'm at work so I can't post a picture. Don't laugh- I have a JFK salt shaker that is worth around fifty dollars! Anyway, the Mary Lincoln dolls are beautiful indeed.

Is Abraham the salt and Mary the pepper?

You know, i don't remember? Would there be something symbolic in the way they are designated?
