Evelyn Lincoln, JFK's secretary?
Good guess, but no. Remember I used the word "he" in my question.

Hint#2 - Jay Carney
Pierre Salinger, Press Secretary to JFK and LBJ.
Excellente, Ms. Anita. I thought sure I would have people going for awhile even after I gave the Jay Carney hint.
Referring to his 1976 electoral campaign, Jimmy Carter remarked:

"I was broke, I had lost some primaries, I didn't know where I was going to go next, and the fact that ...and... were willing to help me kind of turned the tide."

Who turned the tide? (I'm just seeking the more famous one of the two missing names, but giving the other would be too much a hint!)
Was it Senator Walter Mondale of Minnesota, who later became Carter's Vice-President?
Good guess, Roger, but not correct.

Hint#1: The person is world-wide well-known and had already been famous before 1976.
Another try, although I won't vouch for the spelling. Was it Zbigniew Brezhinski, who became Carter's National Security Advisor.

Another name to throw out might be Cyrus Vance, the eventual Secretary of State under Carter.
Andy Warhol.

Roger, thanks for all your smart guesses, but Rob has got it! Kudos!

Using Warhol's celebrity and status was Carter's attempt to reach the younger voters, especially the voters of New York, and position himself as a progressive candidate.

The other artists mentioned in the quote is Jamie Wyeth.

Rob, your prize is a supply of Campbell's tomato soups!

Sorry, but my cardiologist won't let me have canned soup anymore. Besides, I can't stand tomato soup. Chicken noodle, on the other hand, I would take if I could slip it past him, but I guess Warhol never painted chicken noodle, did he?. Big Grin

I could change it to bananas...
Yecch. That's even worse. I'll just donate my prize to someone less fortunate...someone who actually likes bananas!

I'll take them as long as they're green. Thanks!
Ah, another kindred spirit who does not like ripe bananas. We're going to get along fine, Anita.
