Going through some of Tarbell's Rockefeller papers from the Drake Well Museum in Titusville, Pa., There is a note from T's research assistant John Siddall about a guy who in 1870 or 71 received $21,500 in Standard Oil stock as part of a payment for a debt owed. This fellow was already rich, so he put the stock in a strong box and forgot about it. He died in 1896 and the stock certificates were found. At that time, the stock has risen in value to $2,900,000 which in today's money is well over a billion dollars! Better check your drawers for either Apple or Microsoft stocks!
