At first glance I thought it was more moronic thoughtless action by the Pretend-History-Never-Happened crowd. But the reason for turning the statue/sculpture around seems valid. A side issue is whether someone could or would have thought of that minus the fanfare and blue ribbon panel and expense.

However, these are the times in which we live.

But I'm glad steps are being taken to preserve the monument.
When I first read this I thought it was a joke or a fake web site.
It's not

"Preservationists are concerned that the statue, constantly subject to the elements in the open-air memorial and exposed to direct sunlight each morning, is aging unevenly and the front mayeventually fade

Mayeventually fade?
May?????? They are going to spend millions of dollars on mayeventually fade? They don't know?
These highly paid government experts can't even proof read oruse spellcheck
I'm surprised they didn't plan on spraying the statue with sun tan lotion.

Just when I think the government can't do anything more stupid,
they do something more stupid.
Gene, even simple things must be made complicated.
Thank you to Louise Oertly for sending this note:

"I could say so many things about this release in general, but I also know that it's April 1st and noticed the first letter of each paragraph."
Excellent...
I never ever would've thought this was an April Fool's Day joke. And one very valid reason for that is that we see stupid government things happen almost every day of the year.
Who knew that the National Park Service had such a delightful sense of humor? Kudos to the NPS for its creativity in giving us a laugh at time when we all desperately need it.
I thought about that after I made my post.
With fake news, trust in what our government tells us at a low point, the current political and social turmoil, states tearing down statues and monuments and vandalism, I didn't think they would run the risk that the joke would not be received well. I enjoy a good joke, and they fooled me, but I think their timing was poor.
I'll get over it all by tomorrow. Right now I need a good chew bone.
They got us!! I never suspected it.

My comfort is...I'm not alone.

Same with me, Dave. The URL seemed legitimate, and I had no clue the NPS had a sense of humor (although I was curious why they included the last paragraph...but I did not make the connection at the time).
One of the best April Fool's Day jokes ever done.
I knew it was a joke when I read about "Lincoln's wavy hair" and that the statue would not be placed on a "Lazy Susan Turntable." The rest was just hysterical. Coming from the NPS, it was too clever not to share with Roger, and I am happy that he posted it. I hope that all had a good chuckle and enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing it.
I saw it on Facebook, and thought it was hilarious. The NPS put in a lot of clues.
