Here is an interesting copy of notes from an interview with Mrs. Josiah Crawford about a young Abraham Lincoln, from the Indiana Historical Society.
Her husband loaned Lincoln the book "Weems Life Of Washington", which was damaged while Lincoln had it. Josiah had him work for three days to compensate for the damage.

It was interesting to learn that Josiah appears to have been only 7 years older than Abraham.

There was a name mentioned in that interview that I was not familiar with: Andy Cufford. I do not think I have ever previously read that a man named Andy Cufford was a teacher for Abraham Lincoln. Anyone familiar with Andy Cufford?

That should be Andy Crawford. There was no Cufford in Spencer Co., IN for 1820-30 census. Also, we have:

. In Spencer County, Nathaniel Grigsby recalled that he and Lincoln “1st went to school to Andy Crawford in the year 1818, in the winter.”

That was taken from:

Thanks, Steve. "Cufford" just didn't seem right to me.
