Just wanted to make you all aware of a new biography of John Nicolay published by the University of Tennessee Press. Given that there hasn't been a biography of Nicolay written since his daughter's book, this is sorely needed. The price is going to turn many people away, but you might still find it in a library. I bought a copy, because I'm made of money.Undecided

That price is a little steep.
However, there are few things that you can purchase at that price and enjoy as much and as long, as a good book.
Gene,

That's one major problem with university press books. Their cost is usually high in order to try to recoup some of their cost. I can say that unless it was a book that I really wanted, I wouldn't have spent that much.

I can't get on the link that was shown here, and when I googled UT, I got the same message about database being down. Surratt House was selling the 2014 Hay book, All the Great Prizes, when it came out; but it did not sell very well. Is this the 2017 Friend of Giants book? Amazon is advertising paperback for $17.
There must be something wrong with their website, because it was working fine last night. Here is the book on Amazon.

Thanks, Rob, and I agree that it is pricey, especially for Amazon. What is the University Press asking? BTW: When I googled Amazon this afternoon, only the 2014 and 2017 books on Hay showed up.
The press is also asking $52. I've read Taliaferro's book, but not the Friend of Giants.
