This is a True Story, just for your amusement.

I was reading the Testimony taken at the Judiciary Committee's Hearing, in May of 1866, where they were trying to determine the Legality of TRYING JEFF DAVIS, ET AL. for their part in the Assassination of Lincoln. In Question #860, Mr. James H. Fowle was questioned about his involvement. He had been an agent for the South and traveled back and forth across the Potomac, delivering documents, etc.
He (Fowle) said, "that Atzerodt carried us over the Potomac, from Great Goose Creek, Md. to Mathias Point, VA, to the home of MERCER TENNANT, where they spent the night". Included in this traveling group was Gus Howard and Sarah Slater.

Just think, SARAH SLATER SPENT THE NIGHT IN MY HOUSE! (in 1865).

I realize that this means nothing to many people. But it makes me giggle, since I have done years research on her, and didn't know this.

P.S. That house is totally gone, now, and I have sold the farm.

I think that this was the trip that she carried the famous "THIS WILL MAKE THE THING ALL RIGHT" document.

(I would have saved some part of that house, when I was talking it down, if I had known this.)

Reply. No, I do not. When I bought the farm, the building was in need of repair, and really a danger. I HAD TO build immediately. Plus ,
I had no idea of the significance of the structure. No one else did either.
You can't imagine the extent of my surprise , as I learned more.
This farm was Charles Cawood's spy camp. If the South managed to "grab" Lincoln, they would have passed through this farm, on their way South. In case you are not aware, my "address" is SPYCAMP1865.
