I'm sure most of you have seen them before. I think they're rather well done.
They bring back hot and dirty memories of the days when my husband and I participated in these reenactments - he as a soldier and I as an officer's wife. I learned quickly to put on my hoop skirts and grab my parasol instead of my work dress. Work dresses meant you ended up cooking around a very smoky campfire, and the smell of the smoke didn't wash out of your hair for days it seemed.
Pretty cool photography. Having car in the background gave it such an odd twist to the eyes.
Maddie,
Interesting article. I like the massive Telegraph poles in the backgroundWink

I bet everything tastes better though, when you've toiled so hard to cook it!
Nope, everything tastes like smoke because it's up your nose, down your throat, and everywhere. I guess I'm just more of the Scarlett O'Hara type up to a point.

When I retired from those camp fires, I had to put up with ones at Surratt House when we staged our Civil War encampments and also when our reenactors assisted as sentries and escorts across "the lines" for our Christmas candlelight tours. They drove me crazy then because of the smell, but more importantly because they could set off the smoke detectors inside the historic house.

Ever try to evacuate the house when Civil War Santa (anyone know Kevin Rawlings) has the public entranced with his history of the jolly old elf? Even the firemen wanted to stay after resetting the system. I suspect they were more interested in the punch and cookies, however.
Fantastic, Maddie!

These bring back some memories - especially with the car in the background after the event packing up to go!
