You are on the right track, she was an actress. I'm afraid right now I don't know if the "M" has some significance, there's no "M" in her name at least.
Could it be Jeannie Gourlay?
Good idea, Roger, but not she.
Hint #2: This actress literally got in touch with one of the Lincolns.
Hint #3: It didn't happen in the US (and y'all know the story for sure).
Did it happen on a ship? Is it Sarah Bernhardt, who supposedly saved Mary Lincoln from falling down some stairs?
Your 'one of the Lincolns' implies to me that it wasnt Mary or Abraham. "literally got in touch" ... I suppose it could be a seance (although the 'literally' would need to be stretching the credibility). I 'll check with a friend .... ( Google) ... Nellie Colburn ?
Oh ... I see it didnt happen in the US ... hmmm ... Germany?
Good reasoning, Mick, but kudos again, Laurie - you got my hints 100% correctly - it happened aboard the steamer "L'Amerique" that they got in touch because Sarah saved Mary when falling headfirst down a stairway during Mary's journey back to the US from her second trip to Europe.

According to her memoirs, Sarah Bernardt said: "You might have been killed, Madame." Mary replied: "Yes, but it was not God's will." Bernhardt later concluded: "I had just done this unhappy woman the only service I ought not to habe done her - I saved her from death." Mary disembarked almost unnoticed when huge crowds met Bernhardt on the docks upon the ship's arrival in NYC.

"Lucky Luke" is a popular (Belgian I think) comic in Europe.

Five Golden Rings - First five books of the Old Testament

This gentleman is from a book I suppose only Dave Taylor owns despite me.
Who is he supposed to be?

Another point will score (s)he who specifies the scene/incident depicted.
Could it be Samuel Mudd going on a house call and carrying his doctor's bag?
Excellent guess, Roger, but it's not Dr. Mudd. The gentleman is well-known however.
Edwin Stanton on his way to a Cabinet meeting. He is carrying his briefcase. If not Stanton, maybe Gideon Welles?
I'll go with Gideon Welles too.
Very smart guesses, too, but he's none of those gentlemen.
Hint #1: I will answer yes/no questions, so please try to "approach".
You mentioned Dave Taylor - is he someone who knew John Wilkes Booth?
That has to be a Lego figure from the related book on the assassination, and since Eva uses the word "approach" in her hint, I'm guessing it is a lawyer, but the beard is losing me.

I'm going to change the subject to Presidential assassinations, not just Lincoln. Garfield was in a train station, so maybe he had a valise or briefcase in his hand when "approached" and shot by Guiteau? Yes? No?
Garfield and train station is extremely smart (and right the correct incident), Laurie, but it isn't Garfield.
