Calvin Coolidge?
Roger,

I would have never said that, but since you did I have to admit he does bear a slight resemblance to Coolidge, but that's not correct.

No googling please.

Who is this gentleman standing behind Sandburg?

The socialist who ran for President a number of times in the early 20th century--Eugene Debs.
Joe,
Again, he does bear a resemblance to Debs, but that isn't correct either.

Clue: He has rarely been mentioned on this site, but has appeared once in a while.

Next clue.

He shares something in common with not only Lincoln but also with Ida Tarbell.

Is he an actor?
Steve,

He is not an actor.

Was the photo taken in the 1940's or 1930's (based off their clothing)?

Hmm... connected to Sandburg and Tarbell but barely mentioned on the Forum. That would probably rule out Lincoln scholars who are writers/authors. Maybe, some type of Lincoln collector? A collector could have access to bits of little known info which would appeal to Tarbell and Sandburg.
Henry Ford
Sorry Bill, but it isn't Ford.

Steve, I am unsure as to the date of the photo, but I would guess your timeframe is accurate.

Clue: He and Tarbell were the only two people in the world to do something.

Was he a muckraker?
Roger,

No he wasn't.

I will give a bonus clue. He had a son that shares the name of our esteemed forum founder.

Clue: He and Sandburg were very close friends, but they also argued very loudly on occasion, especially when Wilma Minor appeared.
