Lincoln Discussion Symposium

For anyone mulling over our choices for the GOP presidential candidate, here's something to take into consideration. Of course the article is from two years ago, so it's not clear if "JWB Redux" is still on Mr. Paul's staff.

The biggest question: if this guy is Booth, then who is the guy who said he was Booth (and escaped Garrett's barn, no less!) in the 1970's and had that crazy book written about him?

Jim, you reminded me that it's been a long time since I've had a soft-shell-crab sandwich, which is one of the nicest things about living in Maryland!

You let me know when you are up to it, and we'll go find us some.

Maybe if Laurie and her pals are available, we can take them to a seafood place near the Surratt's Tavern.

A soft crab sandwich is a true Maryland delight!

I second that Jim Twins! I'd rather have soft shells than hard shells any day. Besides my mother's, my favorite ones were at a little shack in Benedict that got thrown about ten feet onto land after a hurricane about 8 years ago and never rebuilt.

I have often wondered if those Union troops that occupied Southern Maryland during the Civil War ever appreciated the fried chicken, crabs, rock fish, oysters, and Maryland stuffed ham that I bet they sampled on some of their home invasions.

Laurie, I bet they did! When I was a kid, there was a Maryland Fried Chicken place we used to stop at somewhere between New Orleans and Pensacola, on the way to the family farm.

I thought the food was better than what was sold at Kentucky Fried Chicken, as it was then called, but I couldn't say what the difference was between them.

I love most any kind of fried chicken!

To properly understand history in the context of its times, one needs to consider social and cultural factors. Besides, armies travel on their stomachs - as Napoleon learned in Russia.
