I was wondering if anyone here ever met Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith or knew someone who had. Being the last of the direct Lincoln line is an awesome thing. He must have felt, particularly as he grew older, that he had a bitter-sweet place in American history.

Unfortunately, Robert Lincoln's voice apparently was not recorded. It would be interesting if Mr. Beckwith's was and, if that would provide us with the slightly better idea of his great-grandfather's tone and manner. Probably too attenuated a connection, but family quirks can be passed down sometimes.

In college, I knew a young woman who was a descendant of Mary's sister, Elizabeth Edwards. I thought that there was a faint likeness to the young Mary about her. I wonder if she is the splitting-image now!

And, when I was a child growing up in North Lake Tahoe, my mother worked in a laundry owned by a man named Rutledge who said that he was a collateral descendant of Ann. At eight, I found that very impressive indeed.

Juan, for a long time I also thought there was no video of Robert Lincoln. But there is newsreel footage of the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922. The film is 90 seconds long, and RTL can be seen at the end.
Juan, please go here, and especially look at Laurie's post #84:

I never met Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, but I have met several Todd relatives. My favorite is a great, great, great grand-daughter of Levi O. Todd, Mary's elder brother. She is a lovely woman and graciously shared her family documents with me when I was researching the Todd family tree. I have also met descendants of George Rogers Clark Todd, Elizabeth Edwards, John Todd Stuart, Hannah Todd Stuart, and many others.
