Today, December 8, indeed is a (to me somewhat bizarre) public holiday here in Austria - the solemn remembrance of John Lennon's assassination on December 8, 1980.
No, just kidding - the Feast of the Immaculate Conception; the solemn celebration of belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (My first thought was wow, she wasn't long pregnant - till December 24 -, but I was immediately taught that it doesn't refer to the Virgin Birth of Jesus - covered by the Doctrine of Incarnation - but to the conception of Mary herself by her mother, Saint Anne...).
However, no lectures nor classes today and right the solemn atmosphere for a cemetery visit.

The inscription reads:
"He was a noble philanthropist, an indefatigable benefactor to the poor and those in need, for whose benefit he often performed his art, and whom he donated sums as barely one of the richest.
The very hand that was excelling in the arts he practiced, also remained unsurpassed when he opened it to give and for charity. Herein he played no tricks, herein all was true and genuine,
a truly noble and distinguished nature."
