Kudos, Gene - I would never have thought of that incident because I misunderstood and brooded about a favor Lincoln himself had asked someone for...But no wonder the boys seemed familiar, especially the one on the left 100% resembled daddy...

Today, December 8, indeed is a (to me somewhat bizarre) public holiday here in Austria - the solemn remembrance of John Lennon's assassination on December 8, 1980.
No, just kidding - the Feast of the Immaculate Conception; the solemn celebration of belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (My first thought was wow, she wasn't long pregnant - till December 24 -, but I was immediately taught that it doesn't refer to the Virgin Birth of Jesus - covered by the Doctrine of Incarnation - but to the conception of Mary herself by her mother, Saint Anne...).

However, no lectures nor classes today and right the solemn atmosphere for a cemetery visit.

The inscription reads:
"He was a noble philanthropist, an indefatigable benefactor to the poor and those in need, for whose benefit he often performed his art, and whom he donated sums as barely one of the richest.
The very hand that was excelling in the arts he practiced, also remained unsurpassed when he opened it to give and for charity. Herein he played no tricks, herein all was true and genuine,
a truly noble and distinguished nature."
Who was the only person in U.S. history to serve both as Vice President and President of our country without being elected to either position?
Gerald Ford.
Wow, that didn't take long! Good going, Susan.

Ford became VP when Spiro Agnew resigned and then, 8 months later, he became President when Nixon resigned. He sure saved a lot of money on campaign expenses...

John Yates Beall
Very good, Laurie. Indeed it is John Yates Beall.
What is the name of this man?

I heard him speak several times, and I believe that it is Dr. David Herbert Donald.
Very good, Laurie! Yes, indeed it's David Herbert Donald.
This man may have done something related to a topic that we have discussed on this forum. What is his name, and what might he have done?

Hint #1: Casper.

With that clue, I can go with 1. The Friendly Ghost; 2. Casper, Wyoming; or 3. The Teapot Dome Scandal that was centered around Casper Wyoming.

I'll take door #3 and guess that the man is related to the scandal. I vaguely remember that there was either a Senator or Cabinet member who went to jail because of it, but I have no idea what his name was.
Excellent try, Laurie, but the correct answer has nothing to do with the Teapot Dome Scandal.

Does it have to do with Casper, WY?
