Darn, Rob. Vicki and I just returned from seeing the movie Nebraska. (We're both big Bruce Dern fans.) I was hoping for a million dollars...
Who is this man?

Judge Roger Brook Taney -

Taney was related to Mason Campbell (whom Powell chose to represent him and who refused.)

Reverend Stryker's wife was related to Campbell and Taney -
Very good, Betty. That's him. You win best wishes for a mild winter where you live!
Do you know her?

Roger Taney's wife - Anne Arnold Phoebe Charlton Key Taney?
Sorry Roger, it's not Anne Arnold Phoebe Charlton Key Taney.

Hint # 1- Her father was a prominent Whig politician.
Mary Elizabeth Bliss whose father was Zachary Taylor?
No Roger, it's not Mary Elizabeth Bliss.

Hint # 2 One of her sons became a Catholic priest.

Hint # 3 Think Union Army.
Was this woman General Sherman's wife?
Yes Roger, it is Ellen Ewing Sherman. Her father was a Senator Thomas Ewing, three of her four brothers were Union generals and her parents raised William Tecumseh Sherman after his father died in 1829.

Your prize is a trip to Joseph Stuntz's toy shop where you may select a toy for Xmas. Perhaps you'd like one of Tad's favorites- a toy soldier.
This person has been mentioned many times on the forum. Who is he?

Michael Burlingame? (Professor, AFAIK, cui horem, horem.)
Correct, Eva! Good job. I thought Anita's gift to Roger M. was a wonderful idea, so I will give you the same for Christmas. You win one free trip to Joseph Stuntz' toy shop. Ruth Painter Randall writes, "To enter it was like going into a Christmas scene in toyland." Mr. Stuntz was a wounded veteran who had come to America from France, and he loved to carve all kinds of wonderful toys. Enjoy, Eva!
