What is the name of the man viewing the Gutzon Borglum statue of Abraham Lincoln in Newark, New Jersey?

Oldroyd loved to take long walks. In 1913, at age 71, he walked from the Petersen House to New York City. On the way he stopped to view the Lincoln statue in Newark.

I think I should play the lottery. That was a complete and utter guess.

I can barely walk a block without my back bothering me. Maybe it was shorter in Oldroyd's time.

A person arrived in Springfield on January 1, 1843. Lincoln Day-by-Day says the person "arrived Saturday and is today's sensation in Springfield."

Who was the person?

I remember a little boy was told something like he was the "country's biggest man." The little boy went down to see for himself and returned to say one of Springfield's heaviest citizens (I forgot name) was "much bigger."
