Lord Charnwood?
I cannot see/open the image. This is all I get:

Eva, very early this morning I had the same problem. I tried several times, and finally on about the 5th attempt, the image opened. I was worried it might not open again, so I copied it to my hard drive. Just now I uploaded it to my server and will post for anyone having problems seeing the photo.

That's odd, because it shows up clearly on my screen. Thanks for doing that, Roger.

That's a good guess, but it isn't Lord Charnwood.

Clue #1. He was NOT an academic, but he had their respect.

Dale Carnegie?
Sorry Roger, but it's not him either.

Emil Ludwig?
Is this person an author of a book on Lincoln?
Roger, it's not Ludwig.

Gene, he has written on Lincoln-related topics, but not a biography.

Is/was he considered an author or a journalist?
Was he in the political arena?
Laurie, he certainly was an author.

Anita, no to the political arena.

Clue #2. Carl Sandburg once called him a "fuddy duddy."

F. Lauriston Bullard
It is Bullard. My next two clues were going to be 1)He wrote about a family that had a connection to the television show "The Incredible Hulk." (Bill Bixby and the Bixby letter), and 2)he was a book thief (per the attached article). I was going to stay away from his winning the Pulitzer Prize for editorial commentary as I knew that would give it away.
