It was said that he was enamored of older sister, Maggie, (18 years his senior) when he first met her at Gettysburg - and then transferred his feelings over to the "younger" sister (still 15 years his senior) upon introduction to her at the Branson House when he left Mosby's Unit in January of 1865. When they became "engaged" is anyone's guess, but it would had to have been from February or March, 1865 - certainly a whirlwind courtship - unless he thought she was pregnant and was therefore going to "do the right thing" by marrying her.... it's a fascinating subject, but there is a lot of speculation.
