Well you will be happy to know anchorman Chris Cuomo of CNN reporting live from Nelson Mandela's memorial emphatically credited the statement “Now he belongs to the ages" to Edwin Stanton- Lincoln’s Secretary of NAVY.
Ranks right up there with a reporter who interviewed a 1607 Jamestown descendant once and asked if his ancestors "Came through Ellis Island...." I thought I'd fall off the couch laughing.
Well , he least he got the source right- pathetic nonetheless.
Considering the fact that his father gained a lot of ground writing about Lincoln and being part of the Lincoln community a few years back, Chris should be ashamed of himself.
I also find it interesting how Lincoln is such an icon figure in American politics, members of both parties use Lincoln to their benefit. Didn't our current commander-in-chief use the Lincoln Bible to be sworn in? President Clinton made numerous references to AL.

I think that there is a strong case to make comparisons between Al and Nelson Mandela. Mandela was fortunate that he was able to execute such massive social and political change with minimal bloodshed.
I believe President Obama used the Lincoln bible for both inagurations.
Maybe compare Lincoln and Mandela in the years after Mandela was released from prison -- but certainly not during their young adult years.
