Is Monopoly not played in Europe? It was very popular for rainy days when I was young, and may still be.

Yes, Monopoly is played in Europe, just the streets have different names AFAIK. The poshest (most expensive) street is named "Castle Avenue", which makes sense in Germany, but maybe less in the USA.

The streets on the German board are (literally translated):
Violet (60€): Pool Street, Tower Str.
Light blue (100-120): Chaussee Str., Elisen Str., Post Str.
Purple (140-160): Sea Str., Harbor Str., New Str.
Orange (180-200): Munich Str., Vienna Str., Berlin Str.
Red (220-240): Theater Str., Museum Str., Opera Square
Yellow (260-280): Lessing Str., Schiller Str., Goethe Str.
Green (300-320): Townhall Square, Main Str., Station Str.
Dark blue (350-400): Park Str., Castle Avenue

I just noticed that Monopoly estate has become cheaper. When I played the game last time, the prices were in DM (German Marks), and the Schlossallee (Castle Alley) cost 1000 DM back then (which would equal 500€). Well, reality is different.

Well then, here goes the solution. I found this naming remarkable as off the top of my head, cannot think of a street in Germany (don't know about the US) named after a non-Occidental politician or similar (not even such as Ghandi or Mandela):

THANKS! I love McDonald's, but the only time I get to one is when I'm on a trip or something. Patty stopped at one in Charlotte, NC, when we were headed to Florida a few weeks ago and I had their iced coffee for the first time. It was wonderful.

Now, I wonder if your Monopoly games have the same little pewter tokens we use over here? My favorites are the top hat and the Scottie dog.

I think they are the same. It would be fun to create Lincoln/assassination/CW etc. versions of games, and I'd have lots of ideas, but no one to play with.

Wow! That's a brilliant idea.

Of course, in today's PC world, we'd end up in the Graybar Hotel for attempting to market such a product, but I was destined for that anyhow. It's just a question of for what and how long a stay.

Excellent guess, Roger, yes, it is - I was hoping to give you a red herring by the following hint (would perhaps have worked out had I posted on a different thread):

Hint #1: On the left is the modern (i.e. succeeding) building (built in 1876), on the right the neighborhood:

Hint #2: The building is part of a larger facility one character of the Lincoln saga evidently visited at least once. Here is a further picture as appeared in a 1860 guide:

Was the character either Tad or Mary when they were living in Germany?
