Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of our worst tornado within recent memory. An F4 tornado, this thing struck in 1993 in Petersburg/Colonial Heights and killed 4 people, injuring countless others. I volunteered with other docents who at the time volunteered at Maymont House in Richmond, and we, a few days later, assisted with cleanup in Old Town, the historic area of Petersburg, which was hardest hit. This is the same area which Spielberg used in his Lincoln. Behind the lady in the inset of this photo, you can see the old Southside RR Depot which was featured in Spielberg's Lincoln (most tellingly in the scene where Abe slaps Robert) and also used as part of the exterior of Ford's Theatre in Killing Lincoln (with the top half CGI'd in).....and you notice the debris where the tornado hit to the right of the lady. The entire front half of the top of the old structure was destroyed by the tornado, as were the buildings to right of the structure. The other historic inset photo shows what it looked like BEFORE the tornado.

LOVE the verbiage on the sign that the lady is holding.....
