THE EARLIEST PHOTOGRAPHS OF ABRAHAM AND MARY TODD LINCOLN
Retouched to add color, these daguerreotypes of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln were made in Springfield, Illinois. Most likely a daguerreian named Nicholas H. Shepherd took them in 1846. At the time Mr. Lincoln was 37, and Mrs. Lincoln was 28. Years later, Mary Todd said of these photos, "They are very precious to me, taken when we were young and so desperately in love."
