RE: Springfield Tour
Bill you were quick on the draw to view the pictures. We have edited this post three times to try to get it right.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Those are wonderful photos, Gene! I sure agree with Bill - the photo of Lincoln's home at night is stunning.

Gene,

My e-mail box filled up when you sent pics so I did not get to see all of them until now. Thanks for posting all of them on the site. They are fantastic!

Thank you, Gene, for sharing these wonderful pictures! Is the dog of one of you or is it a "New Salem employee"?

Eva, the dog was with another family visiting the park, and graciously allowed us to take her picture

Eva, Droopy is 8 (I thought she was 11, but her rabies certificate shows she was born in 2005, so Bill, Gene and Joe, Cheryl got one right Smile ). So far, it's really hard to tell how she's doing, as it normally takes her a couple of days to decompress from the kennel. She did eat tonight, so that's a good sign.

For those interested, here's a photo of Droopy.

RE: Springfield Tour
Eva,

Thanks for asking. She's doing OK. Her appetite is back and she can navigate through the house pretty well as well as outside. Of course, we can't let her out without her leash, but we never did that anyway.

But this year it was also unsettling. The interior of the tomb is in desperate need of repair. Where Lincoln's body lies, the trim around the alcove is in desperate need of painting and the ceiling of the front area of the tomb is falling. How the state of Illinois let it get into the shape it's in is unfathomable.

I guess we were lucky to view the tomb when we did. Could not find any updated news articles since this one on when repairs will start. According to this article, work to repair the tomb was to begin the week before we visited. While we were there, no sign that work had started. As far as I know, they still haven't started the repairs yet.

We were pretty lucky Gene. According to the article- the tomb was supposed to have been closed during our time there.

Well, at least it was in the process of being repainted and wasn't going to be left that way. Makes me feel a little better.
