In his fourth State Of The Union address, Buchannan essentially stated that if they cannot find redress, the Southern States have a right to secede.

As a South Carolinian and attorney, I can tell you that the law being debated is just a political stunt. The issue of state nullification of an unpopular federal law has already been decided in favor of the federal law LONG ago. It was also confirmed with finality at Appomattox Courthouse.

I second Dave's comments. Ross Perot was right in 1992 when he said there isn't a nickel's worth of difference between Republicans or Democrats. Even during the terms of President Reagan (whom I revere) the federal government payroll increased. Jeffersonian fiscal conservatism is long dead - we now just argue over how much the government grows, not shrinking it.

There are over 5,000 employees of the Department of Education, and not one of them is a teacher. That tells you all you need to know! haha
