So I am in upstate New York (5 minutes from Canada) visiting sites related to the 1968 unsolved murder of a 25 year old woman. All the evidence points to the Trooper who found the body. He was never convicted, retired and went on to become a deacon in the Catholic church. Before going to see his grave in a small cemetery northwest of Watertown, I checked Find A Grave to see if there was anyone famous in the cemetery There was one - a Civil War general. He was from the area but his family was split with some serving the Confederacy. Wounded in battle he was taken to a hospital In Washington where his leg was amputated. Gangrene set in and he would soon die. Before that Lincoln visited him. The soldier said to the president, "I am not afraid to die but I fear for my mother." Lincoln promoted him to Brigadier General so his mother could collect the benefits. Who took the grave pictures? Art Loux. Chances are that if you have a Civil War general buried near you, Art visited the site.

1. William Berry - Business partner of Mr. Lincoln. This stone is
in very bad condition. Cemetery. His brother founded the The Rock Creek
Cumberland Presbysterian Church at this location. William F. Berry, 1811 -
1835, is buried two miles west in the cemetery of Rock Creek Cumberland
Presbyterian Church. His father, the Rev. John M. Berry, founded the church
in 1822. Abraham Lincoln and Berry were partners in a store at New Salem in
1832-1833. Berry was a corporal in Captain Abraham Lincoln's Company in the
Black Hawk War.

1. Rev. Peter Cartwright - was a traveling Preacher who would come
to New Salem to preach. Was supposed to have been a hard shell Baptist and
could melt snow when he preached.
