Oh that's hysterical! Love the modern suit on the apparent male lead - And Anna Surratt looks like a 1950s Barbie doll! HA! The costuming sure was a flop! I guess those are the "boys" in the last photo? Whoa -- pretty bad casting for Davey Herold, Lew Powell and George Atzerodt....
OK - enough for my scarcastic criticism.....it does look interesting - wouldn't mind having it myself.....

Very familiar with it -- John C. Brennan had a crush on Dorothy Gish and used to talk about this all the time. I believe that he carried on a lively correspondence with her sister Lillian Gish, also an actress.

Noticed on ebay a few letters from A C Richards to Louis Weichmann dated 1898 & 1900 ranging in price from $2,500 to $7,000.

any one know more? Seems to be a collection of letters written to Weichmann from more than one person

I never saw the Floyd Risvold collection regarding Louis Weichmann, but these letters suggest to me that they might come from his work on the Weichmann book. Now's when I wish I were in those high income brackets so that I could meet those prices!

My auction expert, Dr. Houmes, informs me of where these A.C. Richards/Weichmann letters came from:

They aren't from Risvold. They're part of a document bundle bought by Nate Sanders, a Los Angelos autograph dealer. He got them from an east coast auction (can't recall the name) within the last five years. He's been peddling various ones on eBay for at least a year. He also has stereoviews and CDVs, and all of his material is quite overpriced. The documents are interesting, but more as a novelty than having revealing information--Weichmann was writing everyone under the sun while compiling his memoirs.

Blaine Houmes makes a correction: "My mistake. I now recall they had been through Risvold's hands at some point, although they weren't listed in the auction of his material. He was a real Hoover vacuum, primarily postal material and ephemera."

I met Mr. Risvold one time when he came to Surratt House with his good friend, James O. Hall. Richard Sloan may correct me on this, but I believe that Floyd Risvold bought the "lost confession" of George Atzerodt after Joan Chaconas discovered it again in Doster's papers, which were still in the hands of the family. We're not sure what happened to that confession when Floyd's estate was settled.

Oo er! it's all a bit Jezebel! (one of my favourite movies). I so want to waft around in a crinoline! Has anyone worn one, and if so, what's it like?

I wore one many days at Surratt House. All of our volunteer guides (and staff) wear period dress while giving tours. Some of our ladies even wear corsets - I never got that far.

The crinolines (also called hoops) are fun to wear. First, you immediately have the visitor's attention when you open the door; they are not as hot as you would think; the modern ones are a tad more flexible - I even drove a car in mine (and prayed I would not have a flat tire and have to exit the car!); and I had a toddler and cocker spaniel who loved to play hide-and-seek under my skirts.

EBay was offering more strands of Lincoln's hair and pieces of a Mary Lincoln dress. Reminds me of an auction years ago that had up for bid a wart removed from Elvis Presley-I missed the bidding on that one.

I don't know about this one Bill. I am always dubious when little fragments of flags, or in this case wallpaper show up for sale. Curious to see what it will sell for.
