He thanked his wife, Rebecca Miller, for living with the different people he has played throughout their marriage and he thanked Spielberg, Kushner and Lincoln. He dedicated his Oscar to his mother.

Meryl Streep presented him with his award and he joked how he was committed to play Margaret Thatcher three years ago.

The tasteless Academy Award host,whose name I have mercifully forgotten,offended Christians,Jews and Lincoln buffs in his various juvenile attempts at humor.

He said that "Daniel Day Lewis got into Lincoln's head better than any actor since John Wilkes Booth."

This produced a stunned silence from the audience.

This is my last Oscar telecast.

Tom,

I'm with you on this one. I never even made it to that crude comment. I skipped the Red Carpet fashion parade and waited for the show to finally begin at 8:30, knowing that I would never make it to the end and be able to stagger out of bed for work this morning.

At first, the musical production with Charlize Theron and someone reminded me of old-time Hollywood, and the great display of lights backed up the nostalgia. By that time, however, the host was getting on my nerves. Shortly thereafter, I said to heck with it and turned off the television. I am very thankful that I did not attempt to stay to the end. If I had, I probably would be replacing my television with one that did not have a brick heaved through it.

I don't say this just as a Lincoln person who would have enjoyed seeing it sweep the Oscars. I say this in protest to what has become a tasteless, political tool hiding itself under the guise of art and entertainment.

And for that reason, I stopped watching the Oscars about 40 years ago! HA!

Yes, me too. My only interest in this years awards was due to Lincoln-but not enough to cause me to actually watch the show.

I threw in the towel over 30 years ago when they didn't give 'Raging Bull' the Best Picture Oscar.

Same here, Bill! I desperately wanted Lincoln AND Spielberg (such a nice man!) to win a lot more than it got..... but not enough to make me waste time watching boneheads strut up and down the red carpet dressed like manikins (usually in something I wouldn't wear to a dog fight!) or listen to some idiot make disparaging jokes.....no, it ain't what it used to be!

Idots vote and very dark humor shows what it is worth! The Oscars have been a joke for decades.It has been years since I have watched the Oscars.But then again,I leave"Super Bowl"parties at half-time!

He said that the movie Lincoln-a movie about a time when America "got it right" but beaten for Best Film by Argo-a movie that focuses on a time when America "got it wrong." I haven't seen Argo. I don't have patience at this time in my life for "America bashing" movies. If that what Argo is about- no thanks, I'll pass.

I saw Argo and it was good,but,Lincoln was Inspiring!

Bill, there was no "America-bashing" in Argo. In fact, it was a real flag-waver. As you may or may not know, the movie was about six of the American embassy employees in Tehran who escaped just as the embassy was overrun by an Iranian mob in late 1979. The six Americans took refuge at the Canadian embassy, where they spent about three months, until they could be sneaked out of Iran. However, Ben Affleck and his screenplay writer, Chris Terrio, exaggerated the U.S./CIA role in getting the six Americans out, and barely gave credit to the Canadians. In reality, it was an operation conceived and executed almost entirely by the Canadians. Also, most of the suspense in the movie was manufactured. It made for an exciting movie, and that's okay, but: 1. Ben Affleck and company were given credit for being "historically accurate," while the Lincoln movie was bashed with nitpicky points. 2. Without all the major fabrications in Argo, you wouldn't have had a movie. It just wouldn't have been that interesting.

Thanks for the comments on Argo. Like I said, I haven't seen the movie-so I can't make any comments about it.

I am a member of the Lincoln Group of New York. On Thursday we and the Civil War Round Table of New York gave our 2012 Lincoln awards to the film "Lincoln."

Tony Kushner was present and accepted the award on behalf of the film. I think he revealed a certain bitterness in being passed over at awards season but tried to hide it joking that he expected we would give our awards to "Argo."

Mr. Kushner revealed that he writes with a fountain pen and even would take notes with a fountain pen at story conferences. From the very beginning of the project Steven Spielberg announced the film would be no more than 150 minutes and it was obvious from the start the filmmakers felt they could not do justice to a full narrative 1861-1865 rendition of "Team of Rivals."

When asked what his favorite Lincoln film was -with the exception of his own-Kushner replied "Young Mr. Lincoln." he said loved its poetry.
