Burlingame's biography
Just noticed today that Johns Hopkins University Press is bringing out a single volume abridgement of Michael Burlingame's "Abraham Lincoln:A Life." It is expected to be available in October and will be $35. At 700-plus pages it will still be a doorstop, but a little easier to handle.

Best

Abraham Lincoln in the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom.
--Ida M. Tarbell

I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent.

We can only hope that the binding is better for the paperback than it was for the 2-vol. hardcover copies. I had to have mine repaired by a librarian!

I have the two-volume set and generally enjoyed it except for the unremitting hate towards MTL. She was a piece of work but there were many good pieces you won't see in this opus.
