Kudos to our newest forum member, Paul Fisher D.D.S., on his interesting article entitled "Booth's Beard" in the latest edition of the Surratt Courier.

When I was transferring Paul's article over to the Courier format, I kept remembering all the snickers some of us Boothies have had over the years trying to imagine Booth en route to the good doctor, pushing his horse to go faster, trying to navigate unlit dirt roads, feeling the pain in his leg, etc. and still trying to retrieve those false whiskers from his pocket or saddlebags (if he had the latter), trying to apply theatrical glue, positioning the whiskers without the aid of a mirror, and cursing all the while.

And, I think I just created one of the longest run-on sentences in my life!

Kudos to Bill Richter and John Fazio for two thought-provoking articles in the current Surratt Courier. Bill looks at whether or not slavery was really the sole cause of the Civil War, and John asserts that the Confederate government was directly and deeply involved in Lincoln's assassination.

Kudos to Susan Higginbotham on her excellent article entitled The Other Henry and Clara: Henry Ritter and Clara Pix. Susan's article is in the current Surratt Courier. Among other things, Susan discusses the "Clara letter" which has been the subject of speculation by several Lincoln assassination authors.

I guess we'll never really know the extent of Clara's involvement as a CS operative and her associations with Weichmann and Surratt. She certainly must have met with them when in Washington City. The article referenced in footnote #11 is available on the internet and makes for additional interesting reading, plus the article contains pics of some of the documents Susan references. Excellent article, Susan. Thanks for sharing the information.
