Atzerodt's Lost Confession
Almost 50 years ago, Joan Chiconas found the original of George Atzerodt's "lost" confession in the papers of attorney William Doster. Once the Dosters ancestors understood what they possessed, they put the papers up for auction, and they were purchased by Floyd Risvold (who edited and published Louis J. Weichmann's history in 1975). Risvold died in 2009 (at age 97) and much of his collection has since been auctioned off. It is unknown whether the family has retained the original of Atzerodt's confession or sold it. Does anyone know where the original is???

RE: Atzerodt's Lost Confession
Bill, this doesn't help answer your question, but I checked the forum to see if anyone had posted about it. And I found this post by Laurie back in 2012:
"I met Mr. Risvold one time when he came to Surratt House with his good friend, James O. Hall. Richard Sloan may correct me on this, but I believe that Floyd Risvold bought the "lost confession" of George Atzerodt after Joan Chaconas discovered it again in Doster's papers, which were still in the hands of the family. We're not sure what happened to that confession when Floyd's estate was settled." |

RE: Atzerodt's Lost Confession
I have never read all the known confession's of Atzerodt.
Dave Taylor wrote about it on his blog - LincolnConspirators.com back on Aug. 30, 2020 https://lincolnconspirators.com/2020/08/...-atzerodt/ So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
