Has anyone done any research on this Guy?

Was he anymore than an escort for traveling ladies?

I am aware that he intended to write a book on the "Confederate Secret Service", but never got around to it. I have his "Manuscript" from the Confederate Museum in Richmond - but it isn't in any order. The papers are very difficult to read - lousy penmanship. He was said to have copied letters in and out of Thompson's office in Montreal.
(There is a copy of the letter that E.G. Lee carried to Montreal - directing them what to do with the funds they were holding)

I started to de-cypher them by forming a folder - on the left I had his page, and on the right I had my version of that page. I had hoped that if I saw his writing often enough, I would learn how to read it. No Luck! Obviously, I never finished it. I have now decided to give it another try. BUT, if someone has already done that, why redo the work?

There is some good stuff in there. For example: In September 1864, he made application to the Confederate Government to go to Canada and to take two unidentified guests. He never said Who. However, in about November he signed into the SLH and on the same page is Sarah and Josephine Brown. Sarah's name continues to appear off and on until Aprril '65. Not Josephine ( She went to work for Commissioner Clay, her Uncle, in Jacob Thompson's Office.

What else did he do - beside comment on the shirt front of one of his guests.

Roger. Do you have any old posts that addresses this?

PS. DO any of you readers collect Stamps? I am unloading a collection that I started in 1935. Tell me what you need. (Cheap)
