RE: Lincoln before Lincoln
I've been watching "Sandburg's Lincoln" that Lane gave us the link to.
It's much better than I remember, plus I know a little more about the events than the first time I saw it. After watching for the first hour, I can appreciate the actors portrayal a little better, with my favorite so far being Sada Thompson as Mary Lincoln. She doesn't show Mary as the most likable, but you can see how Mary was overwhelmed by events and tried to cope with the trials that came her way. You see Mary's pride in her family and also in herself, a touch of vanity and how that gets her into trouble. Takes a few minutes to warm up to the story, but for me it's quite enjoyable. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it. (Letter to James H. Hackett, November 2, 1863) |
