RE: Your best of 2015?
Being a fan of the obscure facts of history, my best Lincoln associated reads of 2015 were Kathy Canavan's "Lincoln's Final Hours" and Thomas Bogar, "Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination". I had wondered for many years about all the folks working in the theatre that night so I welcomed the Bogar book. Canavan's was equally intriguing; especially the part about William Petersen abandoning his children and the history swirling about him to go to his tailor shop for the night! Certainly not the Father of the Year. There must be more to that story.

RE: Your best of 2015?
My favorite of 2015 is a book that has been around for a long time. Burrus M. Carnahan’s “Lincoln on Trial” was a fascinating look at Abraham Lincoln’s wartime conduct as President as well as Commander in Chief. It is really well written and contained a lot of information that was new to me.
In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first. |

I reread MRS. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: A STUDY OF HER PERSONALITY AND HER INFLUENCE ON LINCOLN by W. A. Evans. One of the things I love about this book is all of the documentation. It makes my life much easier when trying to track down an original source.

Little late posting to this but my favourite reads of 2015 were "Team Of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin for non-fiction. For fiction it was "I Am Abraham" by Jerome Charyn.
My favourite non-Lincoln book was "Fierce Patriot" by Robert L O'Connell - really one of the best bios I've ever read! While Lincoln is my hands down favourite historical person, General Sherman follows a close second. |

I agree with you about Team of Rivals. How did you like the book on Sherman?
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

It is one of the best biographies I've ever read. O'Connell writes it very similar to a novel and he really brings General Sherman to life. He also puts his own sense of humour into the writing, and there was many times I was laughing out loud. Sherman was quite the guy! I found it a very human portrayal of a man who was a very complex. I highly recommend reading it. It's a book I want to read again. My favourite part was the account of the March to the Sea - it was brilliantly written. |
