Happy and safe July Fourth!

I am linking to a recent article by Carl Anthony on Franklin and Jane Pierce. The tragedy they experienced close to the Inauguration suggests that the President-elect was not emotionally able to take on the Office. Complicating the situation was the fact that the Vice-president-elect died before the Inauguration too! How can history judge a President fairly who goes through such trauma even before taking the oath?

Oh my...what an incredible tragedy. I knew about the accident and death of Benny, but I never before read such details. So sad.

Agreed! Very tragic and heart rendering for the parents to witness such as this. I, too knew about Benny and the accident but did not know the gruesome particulars....
