The article is well done. I liked the reference to Booth saving the katydid from his sister's collection. It brought a smile to my face. I have a photograph of a kadydid taken by my daughter in my office in a frame.

That is a Katydid -- they sing "Katy did it! Katy did it!" at night......

This is one of the best magazine articles that I have seen on the Booths and the assassination. The one frontal view of Tudor Hall is especially impressive. It would make a great postcard.

That makes sense because the cicadas have a long buzzing sound. Up here in Michigan they can be heard in August.

I enjoy the "music" of the annual cicadas, but on the 13- and 17-year cycles when the periodical varieties appear by the millions around here, it is not pleasant. Their noise can reach levels that compete with nearby Joint Base Andrews. They also can bang you in the head when you are outdoors, and the females are death and destruction to some of our trees and bushes because they lay their eggs in them so the kiddies can feed when they emerge. I don't want a Silent Spring, but a slight mute would be nice.

I love the sound of the Cicadias or "hot bugs" as my grandfather called them....they click and rasp through August here and I love to hear their echoing whining noises late in the evenings - reminds me of my childhood everytime.....

I enjoy the ones you are talking about also, Betty. They are the annual ones and do not come in hordes. The periodic ones who emerge from the ground in 13- and 17-year cycles are the ones who are deafening just because of their sheer numbers (in the millions). A lot of people refer to those as locusts, but they are not. In fact, I don't think locusts and cicadas are even of the same family.

We had those in the summer of 04. I was 7 and had a hard time going to sleep because of their annoying noises.
