Lincoln suffered a head injury? (NOT JWB's gunshot to the head.....)

Kicked by a horse, but I don't remember anyone saving him.

RE: Who is this person?
OK - so Lincoln and Powell had something in common....both kicked in the face/head by a horse or mule!

I cheated, so I'm out, but I think it's funny Lincoln said he was apparently dead "for a while". How he could make fun of an incident like that shows what a great sense of humor he had.

I saw that same site, Joe. Pretty cool - I've bookmarked it. "Dead for awhile" - yes, a pretty good sense of humor. If Powell ever mentioned his kick, it has gone unrecorded. I assume that he was "dead for awhile as well" as the family told me that he was knocked unconscious (as one would be!) I don't know for how long....

Both kids (Abe and Lew) were kicked when they were about the same age - 10-12 years old....

You are on the right track. You have the first part of the name right.

Hint #7: My wife and I went into a restaurant, and she ordered ____ for dinner.

RE: Who is this person?
Turnips fits, but who eats turnips for dinner? This is one of your tougher ones, Roger.

RE: Who is this person?
His name was not Thomas Turnips, but you are extremely close. That is not what my wife ordered for her main course.

Mary grew up in a Presbyterian family in Lexington. The Todds were members of the McChord Presbyterian Church on Market Street. When she first moved to Springfield, she became an Episcopalian and was married by an Episcopalian minister. In 1850 she transferred her allegiance back to the Presbyterian church, and she attended Presbyterian churches in Springfield from 1850-1861 and in Washington, D.C. from 1861-1865. Her funeral sermon in 1882 was preached by a Presbyterian minister.

Actually, the minsiter's name was Rev. James McChord. The church was known as the Market Street Presbyterian Church and now is known as Second Presbyterian.

Hint #10: The last letter in the meat is an "m."

My wife and I are now going out to lunch. I will try to think of more hints at that time.
