Lincoln Tomb
On my bucket list is a visit to the Lincoln Tomb. I was never there. All I know is from you tube footage and stories told by others. Of course a lot of you have visited the tomb. I'm in search for a floor plan of the tomb. And also want to know where the eight different sculptures of AL are situated. I have made a rough sketch. Can someone help? Thanks.

RE: Lincoln Tomb
Here is the web site for the Lincoln Tomb. At the very least, if someone can't answer your question, they may be able to. Also has a virtual tour.

http://lincoln-tomb.com/#nogo

you might find this interesting...if you want, there are plans to build your own model of the tomb. My internet is slow today, so I haven't looked through the entire site.

Then there is this architech's floor plan, but it's hard to read

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Lincoln Tomb
Thank you Gene. I've written an email to the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site as you suggested. Will inform the forum of the outcome.

RE: Lincoln Tomb
Here is the way the tomb was originally designed (from the book Stealing Lincoln's Body).

The caption reads: "In the original design of the Lincoln Monument, there was no direct access from the rotunda to the tomb chamber. In 1876 visitors to Lincoln's grave walked around to the back of the monument, where a steel door opened into the room known as the catacomb. There Lincoln's remains lay above ground inside a white sarcophagus."

RE: Lincoln Tomb
The Lincoln sarcophagus is not the final resting place of Lincoln. He is buried 6 feet north, 10 feet under in a steel cage filled with concrete, head facing east.

Herbert Wells Fay, Custodian Lincoln Tomb is saying on Aug 19, 1933 in BURIALS AND REMOVALS OF LINCOLN in Week by Week:

Six feet from the north wall or thirty inches north of the cenotaph and ten feet below the floor is the present location. Mr. Lincoln's body is placed with head to the west.

It was not necessary to move Lincoln's body in the 1931 construction because the cenotaph was placed six feet and thirty inches south from the inside north wall, with foundation as low as that of Lincoln's grave.

RE: Lincoln Tomb
Saw this recent news article
http://www.sj-r.com/news/20161224/high-t...ncoln-tomb

Is the government trying not to tell us something they know,
or are they trying to tell us something they don't know?

When was the last time you saw the state or federal government move with such speed, cut through the red tape, and respond so rapidly to an urgent need to an event that only occurred five and a half years ago?

Are they just responding to the act of theft and vandalism by a teenager, or is there something more sinister going on?
You decide.

Keep your eyes and ears open, and be on the lookout for news updates in the National Supermarket Tabloid Weekly.
Cool

RE: Lincoln Tomb
It is very worthy of a bucket list item. As least for me- and I'm sure for countless others- the place has a sacred feel to it. I have the same sense everytime I visit there. There are many notables buried in the cemetery there if you have the time to check them out.
