RE: An Interesting Tidbit
Perhaps another interesting angle....the name Gordon. Lew Powell was 2nd cousin to Confederate General John Brown Gordon on his mother's side. Could this particular Gordon be blood related to the Gordons of Georgia?

RE: An Interesting Tidbit
Let us hope we can find out soon, Betty. I am happy to report that I am passing the buck on this! I was just in touch with Jane Singer, who is quite an expert on the machinations of the Confederate underground and the related activities in Canada. She is much more able to flesh out fact and fiction than I, and she has just sent her huge ms off for publication and is looking for something to do.
I have obtained permission to contact the elderly gentleman who owns the Gordon home (and supposedly the papers). I shall do so this week and then ask to turn the matter over to Jane. The Hall Papers have an extensive file on Col. Gordon also, and I shall be perusing them over the next few days. I don't know that we'll find new material that was not included in Come Retribution, but I also don't know if Hall et al. even knew about the supposed Gordon papers when they wrote over twenty years ago. It would sure be fun to discover something new. |
